Re: sab2sb script failing for this episode

This happens because there is no episode number for this on thetvdb.
And as you can see the name of the file also does not have an eps or season number in it

See here : viewtopic.php?f=6&t=685

Specials can not be processed by SB .. so you need to manual name it & place it into your special/extra folder

--- EDIT---

I'll make this post sticky .. as I think more people will otherwise start to post about this (instead of searching first :o ;) )

Will it ever be possible for SB to handle specials? Since we know the scene don't label specials using thetvdb naming convention then perhaps SB could be programmed to search for "show title+episode title" when searching for specials.

Doctor.Who.2005.A.Christmas.Carol.2010.Special.BDRip.XviD-HAGGiS
Doctor.Who.2005.S04.Christmas.Special.The.Next.Doctor.WS.DVDRip.XviD-RiVER

Trying to get a regex that could recognize those 2 as specials and pull the series and episode name from them correctly would be a pain. Regex that would correctly handle all the possible naming conventions for specials for every series out there would be nearly impossible.

The problem here resides in the fact that Specials releases suffer from even poorer quality checking than normal episode release. By that I mean that specials are posted with the wrong name, wrong air date and/or number. All this just makes it virtually impossible for SB to actually deal with specials in a good way.

With the amount of false positives people would end up, it's better to deal with these manually. Unless someone comes up with a *really* brilliant scheme to deal with them...

Sounds like the best way to handle specials in the case of TV shows specifically is the break them into different categories. Movies for a series such as Star Trek etc. The other thing that might help is by using what's on the season dvd's (which most specials are part of anyways). Take a show like The Office and make those season specials which really belong with season two for example stay with season two. QI seems different where there are specials in the seasons and some as extras so I'm up in the air with that show.

The only other thing I can think of is to somehow allow the users to add a category or exception to sickbeard on a show by show basis. Instead of season 00 or the like we can add some exceptions to specific seasons and have those not return errors when scanned. I have a ton of Game of Thrones vids that aren't exactly listed on thetvdb but that I find relevant to the show. SB could remove the whole special or season 00 thing and make it a manual user defined thing.

for extras you put in your 'Extras' folder. that folder is excluded on scans.
