What is Sickbeard doing?

Postby berkz » Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:47 pm

Ok. So I've been noticing that Sickbeard keeps very busy.

In activity monitor the number of "ports" used by this app increases non stop.

Upper is Sickbeard, Lower is Couchpotato for comparision sake.

Now this is just from a fresh sickbeard install. Default settings -> no shows added.

the log reads something like this:

Mac os X Mountain Lion.

hmm I dont feel comfortable pasting results from netstat -a here. What should I be looking for?

Also I started Sickbeard through the appify method found in the forums

---> viewtopic.php?f=3&t=87&hilit=appify

Don't know if that is the cause. When I came home today the app was using 100% of the cpu.

Code: Select all
CP Server Thread-7 :: sickbeard.db: SELECT COUNT(*) FROM tv_episodes WHERE season != 0 and episode != 0 AND (airdate != 1 OR status IN (4,3276804,204,404,3204,1604,104,804,2,3276802,202,402,3202,1602,102,802,9,3276809,209,409,3209,1609,109,809,6)) AND airdate <= 734798 AND status != 7

Can someone vaguely explain what sickbeard is doing in the above line?

It is a database query. It is checking the number of episodes from what I can see.

Is that normal from a fresh install -> no TV series being "watched" ?

Also letting a fresh install just "run" it keeps on doing similar stuff a whole 24 hrs later.. still not tv series being "watched" ?

I've noticed it tends to do that sql query when loading the View Log screen.. I've never really understood why, but it's pretty harmless.

You can verify by sitting on the log screen, viewing Debug, and just refresh the page a few times.

I don't know enough about the Sickbeard internals to be able to answer your question. My best advice is just use Sickbeard like everyone else does because I don't know that many people have tested Sickbeard installing it without actually using it to track any shows.

Bugs are usually found in the least tested areas and this sounds like one of those. Add shows, use it normally, and report any bugs that comes out of that.
